Privacy Policy for Ge'ez Transliterator
Effective date: March 14, 2026
Ge'ez Transliterator ("the Extension," "we," "us," or "our") is designed to help users type Ge'ez script inline on supported web pages using Latin-character transliteration.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Extension does and does not collect, how it works, and what choices users have.
1. Information We Collect
At this time, Ge'ez Transliterator does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal information.
The Extension does not:
- create user accounts
- require sign-in
- send typed text to our servers
- upload browsing activity
- use analytics or advertising trackers
- sell personal data
2. Information Stored Locally
The Extension stores certain settings locally using the browser's extension storage APIs so that it can function as intended.
These settings may include:
- whether transliteration is enabled or disabled
- page activation state for a tab or session
- selected word separator
- selected numbering system, such as Latin or Ge'ez numerals
- similar local preference values needed for operation
This information is stored locally in the browser environment and is used only to support the Extension's functionality.
3. Text You Type
When the Extension is active on a page, it processes text you type locally in your browser in order to provide inline transliteration behavior.
This processing happens on-device and, in the current version, typed content is not transmitted to us.
4. Permissions Used
The Extension currently uses the following browser permissions:
- activeTab — to operate on the page you explicitly activate
- scripting — to inject and run the extension logic on the active page when requested
- storage — to save local settings and state
These permissions are used solely to provide the Extension's core functionality.
5. Third-Party Services
The current version of the Extension does not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, remote APIs, or external tracking services as part of its core operation.
If that changes in a future version, this Privacy Policy will be updated.
6. Data Sharing
Because we do not collect personal information in the current version, we do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties.
7. Data Retention
Since the Extension does not collect personal data on our servers, there is no server-side retention of personal user information.
Locally stored settings remain in the browser until:
- the user changes them
- the extension is removed
- the browser clears extension storage
- browser/session-managed state expires or is cleared
8. Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed specifically to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. International Users
If you use the Extension outside the country where it is published or managed, please note that the current version operates locally in the browser and does not rely on server-side data collection by us.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Extension, legal requirements, or operational practices.
When we make changes, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this Policy.
